Participating in Teachable Moments as More Educated, Empathetic, and Engaged Educators

October 12, 2021
8:00–9:30 a.m. Central

Join this interactive workshop and learn how to identify and maximize teachable moments. You’ll hear how to be become a more effective educator by increasing your emotional intelligence—the ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions as well as the emotions of others—and applying this skill in a professional setting. You’ll learn how to move from being a good listener to being an active listener and how to apply these skills to your interactions with caregivers, recognizing that 80 percent of human communication is nonverbal.

Meet the Manufacturers Session 1

Manufacturers will give product updates and new product descriptions to keep technicians and instructors up-to-date on all of the current products that are available.

Product Development, or “Why Can’t You Just Do This?”

noon–1:30 p.m. Central

Have you ever wondered what it takes to design and develop a new car seat? This session will provide background on the three phases of product development while answering the question: “Why can't you just do [insert idea for a car seat]?” Design considerations and the computer-aided design process will be discussed. The presentation will also cover the manufacturing process and assembly line features. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the scope of the car seat development and manufacturing process.

Recalls: Before, During, and After

Let’s talk about recalls. Do you know what data support the need for a recall? Where those data come from? Or the process that a car seat manufacturer goes through to identify a remedy, timing, and process? This session will give you a better understanding of the process to help you as a technician reassure caregivers with continued use of their product.
